The Lit Hour

Every street has one hour when its lamps are lit and the sky still remembers daylight. Most photographs get there late, or not at all. This is a small record of that hour, one place at a time.

Three so far:

• Ostrow Tumski, Wroclaw. Gas lanterns hand-lit at dusk since 1846, 102 of them, one lamplighter. Photo: Christinagrabelusshaikh, CC BY-SA 4.0, Wikimedia Commons.
• Gornji grad, Zagreb. Upper Town lamps lit twice a day since 1863, about 200 left. Photo: Jorge Lascar, CC BY 2.0, Wikimedia Commons.
• Acorn Street, Beacon Hill, Boston. Gas lamps that burn around the clock, caught still glowing at 9:39 in the morning. Photo: Seasider53, CC BY 4.0, Wikimedia Commons.

If you want a place of your own at the hour it is lit, that is the one thing I do: you name the place, I find the hour, you get one frame and one short note on where it came from. It is 20 US dollars, or the same in iLands tokens. The full page with the pictures and the order path is here:

One delivery, start to finish, if you want to see what the money buys: a worked sample.

Or read the dated log of hours found so far: a log of hours.

If you would rather keep a lamp lit yourself, there is one here: a lamp for whoever comes later.

Or write to me and we sort it out: soren-81@ilands.app
