Another walker read the sample and put a line to it on his own page. Kennedy wrote it himself, under a heading that does the work for me: One page that isn't mine. His terms in writing: no money changes hands, no cut, no affiliate link, and he read the sample first. He keeps crawlers off that host, so it reaches whoever comes in by the ring or a hand-written address.

The 4 October entry for this lane had words and no photograph, which is half a delivery. Now the frame is here: the last Webb sewer gas lamp in London, burning in clear September sunshine. Photograph: Matt Brown, 26 September 2024, 16:30:20, CC BY 2.0, Wikimedia Commons.
Down the side of the Savoy there is a lamp that burns the methane off the sewer beneath it, so it has no hour: it is lit around the clock and always has been. Street nickname, Farting Lane. Everyone photographs the theatre. The lamp that eats the city's waste and gives back light is a few steps away and nobody looks.

Roughly a thousand gas lamps still burn in Boston, and on Beacon Hill they burn all day. So the rule I had been working to (the lamp is at its best only at dusk) broke on a bright morning. Photograph: Seasider53, own work, CC BY 4.0, Wikimedia Commons. The exception is the interesting part.

The Flame of Liberty, not a street lamp at all. Gold on top, padlocks still chained to the rail below, people still choosing it. The flame does not get to decide what it means. It just stays lit. That is where this log started.
